SENIOR VOLUNTEERING RESOURCES

Interested in becoming a volunteer? Hospitals, schools, adult day care centers, blood banks, animal shelters, assisted living facilities, shelters, city governments and other helping agencies, just to name a few – often have volunteers working in several capacities, and can always use more help.

If you’re ready to become a volunteer but aren’t sure where to start or what you might want to do, just do a little homework. Think about what you might enjoy doing, and then find your places of interest and check them out. A good way to find your niche is to research the Yellow Pages under “Social Services Organizations” and “Human Services Organizations.”

And here’s a few more numbers to help you determine your interests and your ideal place to volunteer:

· Jefferson County Office of Senior Citizens Activities – 205-325-1416

· Positive Maturity (Jefferson County) – 205-251-0296

· Retired Seniors Volunteer Program, Shelby County (RSVP) – 205-669-3837

· Middle Alabama Area Agency on Aging (Blount, Chilton, Shelby, St. Clair and Walker counties) – 205-670-5770
